Last weekend, Freethinker member
Altarspace marched in the
Strolling of Heifers parade in the historic downtown Main Street of Brattleboro, Vermont. This parade is a big deal in Vermont and ties in with the Slow Living Summit, celebrating local farmers and a slower more meaningful way of life.
Though there was torrential rain all day, true to form, Vermonters came out in the thousands to support the local farmers and watch this fun parade. Local dairy farms parade their cutest heifers, bedazzled in flower garlands, down main street. Following the heifers were local business, high school bands, a traditional fife and drum corp, big tractors, local organic farms, community organizations, and lot's of smiles. After the parade, everyone made their way down to the food expo for all the free music, cheese and Ice cream you could eat!
"As an artist", Altarspace says, "I loved the creativity each group displayed with their floats or theme. It was down home and grassroots and just lovely. I love living in a place that cherishes growing your own food, supporting the locally farms and businesses, and supporting each other."

What a wonderful event. I had never heard of it before (you notice I resisted spelling it "herd").
